a book and a song: highlights of the past week

axel pinpin‘s poetry book, Tugmaang Matatabil, a selection of nationalist poems compiled during the author’s incarceration with the Tagaytay 5. pinpin, together with his four other companions, were recently released and rebellion charges against them dropped two years and four months since they were illegally abducted.

below is a video of performance poetry by pinpin himself re-enacting his first day of interrogation on that fateful night of April 28, 2006. his torturers, upon learning that he is a poet, asked him to recite a poem for their entertainment.

jess santiago’s Puso at Isip album launch was also a success.

jl burgos, brother of desaparacido jonas burgos, made a very moving video for the song, ‘Eksenang Tahimik,’ a song depicting the human rights situation in the country and featuring the countless victims of forced disappearances under the arroyo regime. will try to get a copy and post it here soon.
